The Pure Balance chemical range from Zodiac is all about…you guessed it, balance! Your pool water chemistry needs to be balanced in order to be safe for swimmers. But what does balance mean? When referring to pools, balance means treating the water to ensure all chemicals in your pool, such as acidity and alkalinity, are at the right levels. If they are not at the right levels, you will notice:
1. Your sanitising chemicals, such as chlorine, will NOT be able to do their job properly.
2. Corrosiveness, resulting in damage to your pool equipment.
3. Pool water will become increasingly unpleasant/irritating for swimmers.
4. Scale build-ups on your pool’s surface and plumbing equipment.
5. Your pool water will become green, cloudy or murky.
For an overview of the Zodiac Pure Balance range, keep reading below.
Alkalinity Up - Benefits include stabilising pH level, which is essential for swimmer comfort. As a brief usage guide, 200g will raise the total alkalinity by 10ppm per 10,000 litres. However, please refer to the packaging for usage instructions.
pH Up - If your pH is too low, your pool water will be too acidic. This chemical raises the pH level of the water, which is essential for swimmer comfort. The ideal pH level should be between 7.2 - 7.6. Please refer to the packaging for usage instructions.
pH Down - If your pH is too high, your pool water will be too alkaline, reducing the effects of your sanitising chemicals. pH down reduces your pH level. As a guide, adding 375 grams will decrease the total alkalinity by 10ppm in 25,000 litres. However, please refer to the packaging for usage instructions.
Calcium Up - Increases the calcium hardness level in pools, which is essential for water balance, and helps protect surfaces and equipment. As a guide, 100g will raise the calcium hardness level by 10ppm per 10,000 litres. However, please refer to the packaging for usage instructions.
Calcium Down - The opposite of Calcium Up, Calcium Down reduces the calcium hardness level in pools. If your calcium hardness level is too high, you will encounter scale build-up on your pool surfaces, filter, pipes and plumbing. The water can even become cloudy with calcium, but only in extreme cases. As a guide, 1 litre will reduce calcium by 100ppm per 40,000 litres. However, please refer to the packaging for usage instructions.
Pool Acid - In this case, short for hydrochloric (muriatic) acid, pool acid is used to stabilise pH and alkalinity levels in pools. Pool acid is also among the most dangerous to handle, and we strictly recommend following the instructions on the packaging for use.
