PRODUCT
Our team of trained technicians will visit your residence to perform the rework on your Z400 heat pump. The technician will remove the faulty component and replace it with a new enclosed capacitor kit, which includes additional safety features and corresponding wiring. This straightforward process will take approximately 15 minutes to complete.
There is no need to worry if your unit has already been switched off. Please ensure it remains switched off until a trained technician can access the heat pump on site and complete the rework.
We aim to complete all reworks as promptly as possible once you submit your case through the recall submission form on our website. Fluidra will endeavor to contact you within 48-72 hours of receiving your form to clarify any missing information. If all information is provided, a technician will reach out to you to schedule a mutually convenient time to visit your location and complete the rework.
You can still enjoy the use of your pool, but if you have any of the affected models, you must immediately stop using the heat pump and disconnect/isolate the unit from the power supply.
Once we have completed the rework of your Zodiac Z400 heat pump, the unit will be safe to use.
Replacement parts supplied under this recall campaign are warranted to be free from defects in materials and workmanship for the remainder of the original Z400 warranty period or for 12 months from the supply of the replacement, whichever is longer.
Please use the below links to view the warranty period for your unit. Please note units purchased prior to October 2020 need to refer to the links at the bottom of the page. https://www.zodiac.com.au/warranty-information (https://www.zodiac.co.nz/warranty-information for NZ customers)
TECHNICAL
When power is removed/disabled from the heat pump, it will no longer be able to be controlled from an automation system. Your automation system will still try to control the heat pump as it wont know it has been powered down. If you have the heat pump assigned to a timer on the automation device to operate outside of normal pool filtration hours or an independent pump is used, disable the heat pump's functionality to prevent pump running time.
If a Z400 MD is connected to the Aux2 terminal of an EXO/Hydroxinator and priority to heat has been enabled, when the chlorinator checks the water temperature and the current water temperature is below the setpoint the filter pump will run indefinitely until the pool temperature rises above the setpoint.
Completely removing the heater from the EXO/Hydroxinator will prevent this occurring. To do this:
Press Menu
Use the Arrow up and down keys to navigate to “Auxiliaries”
Press OK
Use the Arrow up and down keys to navigate to “Assign Heating”
Press OK
Use the Arrow up and down keys to navigate to “NO”
The Axiliaries menu will now display “AUX 2” instead of “AUX 2 / HEATING”
The heater has now been disabled.
Once the rework has been completed, complete the steps again but select YES to assign heating.
Note that reducing the setpoint to something lower than the natural water temperature of the pool would also work; however the pump will operate periodically to check the water temperature.
If a Z400 MD is connected to an Aqualink system and priority to heat has been enabled, when the chlorinator checks the water temperature and the current water temperature is below the setpoint, the filter pump will run indefinitely until the pool temperature rises above the setpoint.
To disable priority to heat
Press Menu
Navigate to System Setup
Navigate to Maintain Temp
OFF
Note that reducing the setpoint to something lower than the natural water temperature of the pool would also work; however the pump will operate periodically to check the water temperature during the regular maintenance period.
A pump will run for the duration of that timer window. if this is in normal sanitation it's not a problem. To remove a heater from a timer/program:
Press Menu
Navigate to Program
Navigate to Pool or Spa Heat
Delete the Program
If a Z400 MD is connected to a Zodiac or Astralpool integrated intelliheat controller for priority to heat, and water temperature is below the setpoint, a pump will run indefinitely for the time period it has set.
For an integrated setup, in addition to disconnecting power from the heater - Disconnect the pump from the intelliheat and plug it into the chlorinators pump power socket after removing the intelliheat's power from the chlorinator. This would then need to be reattached after the recall work. By powering the pump directly from the chlorinator, all normal functionality will be kept.
If a Zodiac or Astralpool independent Intelliheat controller is controlling the Z400 MD and the water temperature is below the setpoint, the independent pump will run indefinitely for the time period set on the controller.
For an independent setup, in addition to disconnecting power from the heater, unplug the independent pump from the Intelliheat OR disconnect power to the Intelliheat. This will need to be reattached after the recall work to enable normal functionality
Pumps may continue to operate without purpose as the heater will not be powered. Please consult the manufacturer of that controller's user manual for direction to remove the heating function temporarily.
