The Ultimate Guide to A Sparkling Clean Pool

pool-all-in-one-clean

Whether it's the time to open or close the pool, we've covered you with our ultimate all-in-one pool cleaning guide. But, let's be real, fixing a green pool can be a bit more of a challenge than your typical spring clean of the house - it may take a few days of hard work.

Fortunately, we've identified the 4 critical tasks on how to clean the pool to get your pool's health back on track. With these tasks under your belt, you'll be well on your way to enjoying crystal-clear water in no time.

1. Remove debris with a leaf net

Tackle the debris first and not with a skimmer - a leaf net is the way to go. It's more effective at removing those leaves and scum from the water surface and makes you feel like a pro pool cleaner. You can pick one up at your local hardware store or pool shop.

2. Adjust the chemicals

Everyone loves a sparkling clean pool, but it's best to check the chemicals before swimming if your pool is murky with unwanted bacteria. Determine your chemical levels with a pool test strip. Then use a pH decreaser or increaser until you find the ideal level, which is between 7.2 to 7.6. You may also need an alkalinity increaser.

For a pool that's seen better days, you need to shock the pool back to its life. Add 12-14L of shock over a few days. If you've done it correctly, you'll notice a change in the colour, from dark green to cloudy white, light green, or clear. If nothing has changed, continue to add more pool shock.

3. Keep your filter running

Keeping your pool filter running is crucial for achieving a healthy pool environment. Trust us, you don't want to swim in a pool resembling a swamp. To effectively clear out any unwanted debris and bacteria, it's recommended to run your pool filter for a few days straight. If you have a sand pool filter, make sure to backwash your pool filter 3-4 times per day. A clogged filter can lead to green water and even damage your filtration system, so keeping up with this step is vital. However, if your pool still hasn't improved after this process, it may be time to call the pool pros to check your filtration system thoroughly.

4. Clean the pool floor

Now it's time to give the pool floor some much-needed love. You can either get your hands on a long pool brush and do it manually or leave it to a robotic pool cleaner. However, in extreme cases of debris overloaded, we recommend consulting a pool professional to ensure your pool is safe for swimming. Make it a habit to regularly check for clogs in your pipes and wear and tear in your filtration system to avoid any further damage.

Bottom Line

Maintaining a clean and healthy pool is essential for every pool owner, and it all starts with these four critical tasks. From removing debris with a leaf net to keeping the filter running smoothly, every step counts towards crystal clear water that's perfect for swimming.

Remember to adjust the chemicals to ensure a safe and comfortable environment for everyone. And last but not least, cleaning the pool floor is the final step that brings everything together. Whether you're using a pool brush or a robotic pool cleaner, a little elbow grease goes a long way in keeping your pool pristine and inviting.
