Key Considerations To Choose The Right Robotic Pool Cleaner for Your Pool

Let’s face it, robotic pool cleaners are not cheap, so why not make the most out of your money by choosing the right one that is just perfect for your pool?

You might already know that these modern inventions make it easy to maintain your pool with a lot less work on your part. Robotic pool cleaners may sound like quite an expensive investment but it definitely pays off in the long run, and here’s proof if you still have doubts about how robotic cleaners can save you time and money.

If you’ve already made up your mind to purchase a robotic pool cleaner but are feeling overwhelmed by all the options available in the market? Don’t worry we have some great tips that will help you determine the best robotic pool cleaner for your swimming pool.

Let’s dive in!

1. Determine what type of pool you have.

There are two major types of pools basing on how they are built.

- Aboveground pool: These are pools that can be assembled by the pool owners themselves. Most of the aboveground pools are simple in size and shape and they are likely for family use only. Choose a robotic pool cleaner that caters to the needs of aboveground pools.

- Inground pool: This type is more concrete and it has a solid foundation. They are built by digging up the ground and forming the pool within it. If you have an inground pool, choosing a robotic pool cleaner that specializes to this type would be ideal.

It is easier to find an RPC for above ground pools because there are only few available in the market to choose from. If you have an inground pool, plenty of other factors are needed to be considered.

2. Determine the type of pool floor.

Is your pool floor made of tiles, vinyl, or fiberglass? Make sure to investigate first if certain robotic cleaners are compatible to your pool floors. For example:

3. Determine the elements and dimensions of your pool.

Does your pool have multiple steps, inclines, and slopes? Choose a robotic pool cleaner that has the ability to climb steps and inclines. A lot of robotic cleaners don’t clean on difficult corners or don’t climb steps. There are also types that can climb walls vertically. Make sure that your pool walls are sturdy enough for the machine to suck up to. Also, check the maximum pool dimensions to ensure your robotic cleaner has sufficient cable to reach each corner of the pool from the power supply.

4. Filter fineness

Debris / dirt size is measured in microns, which is short for micrometer (one-millionth of a meter).

The smaller the micron value, the smaller the debris a robot cleaner’s filter can clean out from your pool water. Descriptive terms like ‘mesh’ or ‘fine’ do not matter. Make sure that the micron value is small if you want to really clean your pool.

*Please note that other micron filters are available as accessories in 200 and 60µ for below models.

5. Cleaning cycles

Most units usually have several settings or cleaning cycles you can program them for. The regular settings for the robotic cleaners mostly determine the amount of time they will clean before shutting off. Some only have a single cycle while others have multiple.

6. Remote controls and connectivity

Some models are remote-controlled which allows you to control and monitor the progress of the cleaning cycle anytime, anywhere. Such as our EvoluX series that comes with iAquaLink™ app connectivity. The cleaner functions can be monitored and controlled via the app. Some models allow the cleaner to be controlled and driven towards a specific dirty area in the pool.

7. Warranty

2-3 years is common on most models. This way, if there is any problem with your pool cleaner, you’re covered by the manufacturer. They will fix it for you or replace the device, and you won’t suffer a loss.

More things to consider: Navigation technology to map your pool, suction power, energy efficiency, weight…etc. Ultimately, before making the purchase, it is imperative to study the item first to make certain that what you are going to buy is perfect for your pool. Careful and meticulous inspection, research, and pool assessment are needed in choosing the right pool cleaner.
