Water Saving Pool Tips
With water restrictions in place through most of Australia, it’s important to find alternative ways to using water.
Following are a few tips on how you can maintain your pool water levels without using council water.
Use a pool evaporation cover
An evaporation blanket over your pool slows down the evaporation process which reduces water loss. Without one, a pool in Sydney can lose up to 50,000 litres of water per year. A pool blanket will also aid in reducing loss of chemicals and if you have a heating system it will impede the movement of heat from warm water to the cooler air.
Install a rainwater tank
Installing a permanent rainwater tank can be used for topping up your pool and for any other outdoor needs. Some state governments also offer installation rebates on tanks.
Alternatively, a downpipe diverter offers a cost-effective way of collecting rainwater from your roof, directing it straight to your pool.
Additional water saving pool tips
- Keeping your pool water balanced and healthy means there is less need to drain the water and backwash your filter.
- Consider replacing your sand filter with a cartridge filter . Sand filter backwashing can consume thousands of litres of water.
