About Clarifiers
Cloudy pool water is possibly the most recurring problem
encountered by pool owners. Let's look at the five key causes
of cloudy pool water and their solutions.
Filtration & Circulation
If your pool filter is not properly functioning or the water flow
is restricted by a malfunctioning pump, circulation stoppage or
lack of backwashing and/or cleaning the filter, pool water will
become cloudy. Inadequate filtration and circulation will
always result in a battle agains't cloudy pool water.
Water Balance
The lack of a proper pool maintenance schedule will result
in unbalanced water. Incorrect pH, total alkalinity and
calcium hardness level's will result in cloudy pool water.
Balancing your pool water will usually result in your pool water
clearing up.
Heavy Swimmer Load
A weekend party with lots of swimmers at the one time can
overload the pool with organics such as sweat and body oils -
causing cloudy pool water. To fix the cloudiness add a
good shock treatment such as PQ Ultimate Oxy Shock or Instant
Chlorine Pellets and a dose of Natural Clarifier.
Algae Formation
An algae bloom in your pool will cause your cloudy
pool water. This type of cloudiness can be distinguished from
other causes by a slippery feel on the pool's surface.
Super-shock the pool to correct this problem using PQ Instant
Chlorine Pellets. Unfiltered dead algae will also cloud the
water - this will occur if you have recently applied an algae
treatment. If you have added an algae treatment wait for a
full filtration cycle to pass as this will normally clear things
up.
Fine Suspended Solids
Sometimes clay, dirt or metal particles that are
unfilterable due to their small size may become suspended in the
pool water causing it to cloud. Use of a water clarifier such
as PQ Ultimate Clarifier on a regular basis will cause these
particles to mass together into a filterable size and will
therefore remove cloudiness in your pool water.
